Community Based Rehabilitation

“Empowering caregivers to care for their children with intellectual disabilities”

Angel’s Centre provides bi weekly therapy and counselling sessions in occupational therapy, behavioural therapy to parents and family members. In providing home based health care and therapy for children, Angel’s Centre uses the community based rehabilitation strategy to equip caregivers and family members with knowledge and skills to administer routine exercises for their children. Caregivers and family members are trained in hygiene activities of daily living training (bathing, dressing up, washing, brushing teeth), social skills training (interactive play, group play activities and among others. Children are also supported with assistive devices including wheel chairs, standing frames and caregivers are trained to their usage and maintenance.  Angel’s Centre also work community health trainers to conduct home visits and follow ups.

Furthermore, Angel’s Centre also collaborates with health centres and other service providers to provide referrals for children who are in critical conditions

Respite

Because of the mental and emotional strain that comes with taking care of a child with special needs, Angel’s Centre provides quarterly respite support for caregivers. Children are taken on by the centre for two days and nights on a quarterly basis for at least 20 caregivers. Caregivers are also given special treats for self-care.
